Underachieving PSG Finally Reaches UEFA Champions League Final
Paris Saint Germain will play int heir first-ever UEFA Champions League final after a classy 3-0 win over RB Leipzig in the first semi-final match decided in Lisbon, Portugal on Tuesday night.
Marquintos, Angel Di Maria and Juan Bernat scored in the 13th, 42nd and 56th minute to advance to the first final at the expense of the lethargic German side.
It was a long, hard wait for PSG since the Arab billionaires took over- thought they have dominated the domestic scene.
More disappointing for PSG was in 2016 when they led Barcelona 4-0 in the first leg of round of 16 but lost scandalously 6-1 in the return leg.
PSG now await the winner of the second semi-final between Bayern Munich and Lyon to be played on Wednesday.
The final match is billed for Sunday in Lisbon.
RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann, speaking to BT Sport: “At the end the ticket for the final for PSG is well deserved. First 10-12 minutes we played well. PSG has so much quality and at the end they were the better team, but football is sometimes like that.
“We have to decide before the game if we want to attack early. In the first 10 mins we had three or four good moments and made two of three big mistakes. When we conceded the second goal the belief of our players drained. At the end it was a question of character and we did it well in the second half.
“It is not that easy to think of the good season but after a week it will be OK. We are a young team and will try to do it well in the next season. The players can come back and we can try for the Bundesliga and the cup.”
