Rivers United Tumble, Other NPFL Results
Man of the match Nelson Esor’s two goals in five minutes were not enough to earn Rivers United FC at least a point as they slumped to a 4-2 defeat to Dakkada FC at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Leading 2-1 just before the break after Emmanuel Charles had given the host the lead in the 23rd minute and magical Nelson Esor double strike in the 39th and 44th minutes, the ‘Pride of Rivers’ were stoned when Musa Bashiru restored parity TV for the host just after the restart of the game on 45 minute to end the first half at 2-2.
With scores at 2-2 midway through the second half, Dakkada FC took the lead for the second time as debutant Musa Bashiru got his brace to set up a frenetic finish and then, with 14 minutes on the clock to the end of the match, forward Christian Ekong gave the host a two goal lead as his 25 yards free kick did beat Ospino Egbe in goal for Rivers United.
It was tight and tense, and as the clock ticked down it was increasingly fraught, but even with four minutes added time, it turned out to be that the ‘Pride of Rivers’ will have to wait for the second half of the league to win on the road.
