Coaches’ Pressers

Newcastle currently sit in 19th place in the table, five points adrift of safety and without a league win in their 11 matches so far this season.

So Eddie Howe is very clear on the difficult assignment in front of him: “I’m looking forward to it, I’m looking forward to the challenge. It’s a huge challenge that we face – I’m under no illusions about our current situation and what we need to do.

“Tomorrow is a massive day for everybody connected with the football club. The supporters have shown how important it is, a sell-out.

“I’m sure the atmosphere will be a brilliant thing for me and my players to experience.

“I thank the supporters for everything they’ve done for me to this point, how welcome they’ve made us feel, me and my staff, and I just urge them to really try to help the team get a win tomorrow.”

Thomas Tuchel isn’t the first manager to be asked about the impending busy festive period that is just on the horizon. He definitely won’t be the last either.

“I’m looking forward to it” the Chelsea boss said.

“I love my job but it does not feel like a job. I am enjoying every day, being with the squad and the football team, I feel privileged.

“I love the game and very blessed that I can be part of a big football club, to live my passion. It is the first time I will play around Christmas and New Year, we had little breaks in France and Germany but what did we do? We watched Boxing Day games.

“I am aware of the schedule but it does not feel like a job. I am happy to be here.”

Thomas Tuchel was on Conor Gallagher, who to be honest has a bit of a look of David Beckham circa 2003 about him – or is that just us?

The 21-year-old – on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea – earned an England call-up for Monday’s World Cup qualifier against San Marino as a result of other squad members picking up injuries.

“There can not be a coach that does not love guys like this: humble, nice, smile on the face and all the time ready to give their everything and want to learn and improve,” said Tuchel.

“As a team-mate, I would’ve also love to have played alongside him because he is a helper. It’s a pleasure to know the guy and to have the guy and I’m super happy for him that things have worked out so well.

“It’s up to him now to keep on going, keep the feet on the ground and the rest we will decide not in a rush.”Article Reactions.
