Diri Rewards Bayelsa Queens, Wrestlers

GOV. DIRI REWARDS NWFL CHAMPIONS….

….CALLS FOR THE UPWARD REVIEW OF LEAGUE’S PRIZE MONEY

Patrick Ndubuisi

Bayelsa Governor, Senator Douye Diri has expressed his feelings towards the five million naira (#5,000,000) prize money for winners of the Nigerian Women Football League Premiership, as the reward is nothing compared to the amount of funds expended by the team during the course of the league.

The Governor made his feelings known while receiving the state’s female team, Bayelsa Queens, at the Executive Chambers, Government House, Yenagoa on Wednesday, following their victory at the just concluded Super 6 in Benin, at the weekend.

He said it will be more difficult for private clubs to cope, after paying so much on traveling, accommodation, salaries, and other expenses incurred by the team, only to receive a paltry #5m, calling on the sponsors to reconsider, and have an upward review of the cash reward.

While congratulating the team, for not only emerging as the Nation’s champions, but qualifying for the CAF female competition, the Governor noted that the state government will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring they prepare adequately for the continental competition.

He directed the Youth and Development Commissioner, Hon. Daniel Igali, to ensure that loanee, Monday Gift is kept permanently, while the Technical crew should arrange preparatory games, ahead of the CAF competition.

Governor Diri reiterated on his early charge to their male counterpart, Bayelsa United, to return to top flight football, as failure will attract consequences to both the management and technical crew of the team.

Announcing cash rewards, the Governor said each first team player will go home with #500,000, #300,000 for other team players, #300,000 for individual award winners, #700,000 for the Technical Adviser, #500,000 for the Assistant coach, #500,000 for both the Chairman and Secretary of the club, while board members are to smile home with #200,000 each.

Governor Diri also received and rewarded the state contingent to the just concluded African Wrestling Championship in Morocco, – with gold medalist, Blessing Oburududu going home with #1,000,000, the team’s coach, #1,050,000, while other wrestlers will go home with #500,000 each.
