Dessers Proud to Make Super Eagles Debut
Cyriel Dessers has made his long awaited debut for Nigeria and has expressed his satisfaction with the way thing s went.
He was an unused substitute in the first friendly match against Algeria on Friday where Super Eagles lost but was called to duty on Tuesday.
Nigeria drew 1-1 with Tunisia and the RKC Gent forward is happy to have ditched Belgium for Nigeria. Dessers has a Nigerian mother and Belgian father.
Dessers said: ” This was a highlight of my career, yes. It was fun, I was well received in the group. There are not many things that are higly regarded, right? Maybe become a top scorer, but playing for your country………..”
Meanwhile, former midfielder Garba Lawal has hailed the impact of FC Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi. Sanusi starred in both games and did well before being forced off against Tunisia with an injury.
Lawal told Daily Trust: ” I’m impressed with the performances of the new players. I think they all did well. The performance of Zaidu Sanusi caught my eye the most because he showed great composure and ability to join the attack.”
Coach Gernot Rohr has also backed Maduka Okoye to be the Super Eagles number one goalkeeper. Nigeria will take on Sierra Leone in 2022 AFCON qualifiers double header in November and Okoye is being tipped to man the post.
