Covid-19 Knocks Onyeka Out of 2022 World Cup Double Header

Frank Onyeka is out of the Super Eagles squad for the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.

The Brentford forward tested positive for the virus and has now gone into isolation that would last about ten days.

The Super Eagles will take on the Lone Stars of Liberia on Friday, 3 September while they will travel to play Cape Verde four days later.

UK based players are not taking part on the Cape Verde match as it is one of the red light countries, according to the UK.

In the meantime, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has called for better preparation this time around in Lagos.

The German coach lambasted the earlier arrangement in the match against Sierra Leone in the AFCON qualifiers.

“We spent one hour 30 minutes from the hotel to the stadium, which was due to the traffic. Not good enough”, he told an online medium.

He also called for the improvement of the pitch of Teslim Balogun Stadium, where the match is expected to take place.

The Nigeria Football Federation has limited accreditation for the media and will allow only 3000 fans into the stadium due to the fresh wave of Covid-19.
