Chelsea Sack Lampard: Reactions
He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished
Roman Abrahamovic released an emotional statement announcing the sacking of manager Frank Lampard.
It reads thus:
“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.
“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.
“This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the Board have taken lightly.
“We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club. However, recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations, leaving the Club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement.
“There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank, but after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the Club time to improve performances and results this season.”
It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the termination of my 51-year relationship with Chelsea FC. It is never a good time to fire a club, but in this instance and after years of being an embarrassment to me, the board feels it is in my best interests to pursue my support with a different team. I would like to thank Chelsea for the good times and the bad times (which were often also the good times, even if we didn’t know it) and wish her well for the future. I will announce Chelsea’s replacement in due course.
Crazy decision from Chelsea, form is temporary and building a side takes time. He has used youth well and Werner the only blot on copy book. Needed another window at least.Paul
Simon Kirk: Been a Chelsea fan since 1969 and have never been so annoyed at a sacking of a Chelsea manager. He needed at least another 18 months. Shame on you Abramovich and the Chelsea board for supporting such a decision.
Ryan Howard: I find it such a weird sacking – a month or so ago Chelsea were in a nice groove, Zouma and Silva were scoring and keeping clean sheets, now after one bad run he gets sacked. Chelsea could be a world class club if they just gave a manager proper time to build a team.
John Clarke: Frank Lampard takes some of the blame for poor tactical use of expensive resources in recent games. This does not absolve a number of players whose performances hung him out to dry. Tough times and conditions but long hard look in the mirror needed. Thanks Frank!
Olly Smith: The sacking of Frank Lampard makes it incredibly tough to be a Chelsea fan. In his first run of poor form, in a condensed and one of a kind season, disrupted from the off. Chelsea never learn, why would you want to manage them at this point…
