Breaking! Finally, NFF Sack Rohr
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has sacked Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr after five years in charge of the team.
The Super Eagles laboured to qualify for the final round of 2022 World Cup despite being in a relatively cheap group that has Liberia, Central African Republic and Cape Verde.
Nigeria drew 1-1 with Cape Verde on Tuesday to top the group with 13 points. The team lost to Central African Republic, and only won against Liberia at home at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. Nigeria won all away matches but were not convincingly.
It was learnt that one of the sponsors of the Super Eagles agreed to foot the bill for the termination as a top NFF official recently told the BBC that the German would not be sacked.
Fans criticised the team’s performance on each occasion at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Rohr took over in 2016 after a turbulent time with Sunday Oliseh and qualified Nigeria for the 2018 world cup in Russia, 2019 AFCON in Egypt and 2022 AFCON in Cameroun.
