Arsenal Stun Chelsea to Boost Top Four Hopes

Arsenal stopped the rot with a resounding 4-2 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night to boost their top four finish in the EPL this season.

Arsenal had lost their three previous matches against Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton to dampen their quest to return to the UEFA Champions League next season.

However, things took a dramatic twist at Stamford Bridge as Arsenal youngsters rallied to a remarkable win that could be a psychological boost for them. Having lost seeming winnable matches, they have now won a match most pundits had given to the home side. Chelsea had a comfortable 2-0 win earlier in the season in the reverse fixture.

Eddie Nketiah scored in the 17 and 57th minute while Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka scored to put a dagger in the heart of Chelsea fans. Cesar Azpilicueta and Timo Werner scored for Chelsea.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta described his side’s victory at Chelsea as a “great night” as the Gunners ended a run of three defeats and reignited their pursuit of a place in the Premier League’s top four.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says it is “unacceptable” his side have lost three consecutive home games in all competitions, a run that has seen them concede 11 goals while scoring four.

In another match, Manchester City thrashed Brighton 3-0 after the visitors resisted the home side for a long period of time. City return to the summit of the EPL table after Liverpool dislodged them having played- and roundly defeated Manchester United- a day earlier to move to the top.

Pep Guardiola pulled no punches after Wednesday’s win over Brighton took Manchester City back to the top of the Premier League.

Calling Liverpool ‘one of the best teams ever’, Guardiola says City must win all their remaining six games to be champions, otherwise, Liverpool will be champions.

“It happened years ago, we won 14 in a row to be champions,” he said.

“Liverpool will win all their games, so if we win all the games we will be champions.”

It was the 2018-19 campaign when City won every league match from the beginning of February to beat Liverpool to the title by a point.

Everton’s Richarlison scored a late equaliser as the side held Leicester City to a 1-1 draw while Newcastle United ensured their safety with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. Another season for Newcastle United in the EPL.
