Aiteo Cup: Eguma Reacts to Rivers Utd’s Win Over Heartland FC
Rivers United defeated Heartland FC 3-1 at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Wednesday in the Aiteo Cup round of 16 game.
Sunday Adetunji opened scoring for the Port Harcourt side in the first half through a header while Heartland FC equalised early in the second half through Chijioke Akuneto.
Paul Acquah made it two for Rivers United while Fortune Omoniwari made it three and safe for United.
Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma expressed his delight after the match: “It was a good game, a tough match. It was a game of surprises… We know Heartland very well… When we scored the first goal, we wanted to consolidate, but we conceded”, he noted.
“After we conceded we needed to re-strategise. We were under pressure at a point in the game and towards the ending we made some changes and planned to catch them (Heartland) on the counter. We made sure we had the numbers and the goals came at the right time”, he concluded.
Rivers United will now take on NNL side Niger Tornadoes in the quarter-final.
